Reimagined Design
Eloise Kubli ASID NCIDQ imbues a dated design with fresh new look
Eloise Kubli, ASID NICQ, redesigns an early project of hers. “The faux arches and swooping swag valences that people wanted were stylish then. The new owners of the home commissioned me to create a more modern interior.”

Because the living room entry opens to the side of the main entryway in the foyer,” Kubli explains, “I specified a unique three-sided clear glass fireplace that is visible from both inside and outside the space. I adore book matched marble, so we clad the chimney wall with slabs of porcelain that mimic the look but can handle temperature differences better than the thin marble required for this application.”
Kubli also redesigned the luxurious maple cabinets and shelves, and incorporated LED lighting on each shelf. “The LEDs highlight the owner’s exquisite glass collection, and add a touch of drama to the floating cabinets after dark,” says Kubli.
All-new furnishings clad in neutral performance fabrics provide comfortable seating and a relaxing area to enjoy the lake view outside the picture window. A cocktail table finished in multi-level silver leaf brings the seating area together.
High above the living room a Fine Art two-tiered chandelier incorporating shimmering crystal buds and a gold leaf finish provides ample illumination for this expansive and airy space. Cornice and panel drapery soften the motorized sun shade needed to control the amount of daylight in this space..

Dining Room
Kubli updated colors and textures throughout the home, including this dining room, where the designer chose a soft heron plume color for the walls and the ceiling. The new owners elected to keep the home’s Saturnia marble flooring. Also retained from Eloise’s original interior is a classic coffer design featuring rich and complex colors. Textured stone columns in the space were refinished in smooth Venetian plaster.
The designer also updated existing window treatments, replacing old ornate draperies and sheers with simplified Euro-pleat drapes and airy sheers hung from satin nickel rods.
The space is illuminated by a crystal bud Fine Art chandelier finished in gold leaf. The lighting ties in with the two-tiered chandelier in the living room. Additionally, there is new LED rope lighting at the coffer, highlighting subtle metallic faux at night.

Loft (chaise detail)
Upstairs in the roomy loft, Kubli has designed a mix of style and comfort to create a tranquil and private space for houseguests. The armless chaise seen above is upholstered in performance fabrics, and provides a comfortable place to sit and read, or just lie back and relax.
A burnished metal and polished marble side table contrasts with the plush chaise, generating an unexpected yet visually pleasing composition.
In the background, the side table’s marble top is echoed on a beautifully detailed console table positioned against one of the loft’s walls.

Loft (desk detail)
Elsewhere in the loft, Kubli installed a graceful writing desk with ample room for a laptop computer. The desk top area incorporates a faux linen texture, while the frame is finished in silver leaf. An antique brass and alabaster table lamp on the desk top reinforces the understated style of the piece. Hanging on the wall over the desk are two exquisite copper and silverleaf butterfly silhouettes.
“I specified a clear acrylic chair to complement and complete the desk area,” says the designer. “I adore the interplay between modern acrylic construction and genuine sheepskin upholstery in this classic silhouette chair.”

Guest Bedroom
My clients wanted to create a guest room off the loft area for visiting family and friends. “They envisioned a quiet, private place for their house guests to relax and recharge, ” Kubli says.
Contrasting organic and geometric patterns on the bed add pleasant visual tension that resolves and is brought together by a vertically tufted headboard and platform surround. “I love to combine diverse modern elements like this,” continues the designer. “The soft, plush bed next to that stark, modern night table and lamp… dreamy and dramatic!”
